NUWAY Moves 3R’s Counseling Center

This week NUWAY moved its 3R’s Counseling Center to 1404 Central Ave. N.E., Minneapolis 55413 to better serve clients with substance use and mental health disorders.

The center was previously located at 2220 Central Ave. NE. The phone number remains 612-789-8030. The new center will serve up to 200 clients per day.

“The move allows NUWAY greater ability to serve its mission of providing extended, co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health treatment for individuals in a supportive environment,” said David Vennes, NUWAY’s executive director and CEO. “The new facility gives us more room and flexibility.”

An open house will be held later this spring for neighbors and friends of the program. The 3R’s stands for Recognition, Rehabilitation and Recovery.

Vennes said there is a great demand for extended care outpatient treatment after people complete high-intensity residential treatment. “We are trying to help serve that need,” he said. “NUWAY’S treatment programs are individualized, depending on the needs of each client.”

The 3R’s Counseling Center is one of three NUWAY outpatient counseling centers using the R.I.S.E. (Recovery in Supportive Environments) model of care. The other two centers are in south Minneapolis and St. Paul.

NUWAY is the only provider of the R.I.S.E. model which removes the housing barrier that so many clients face early in recovery. “By providing access to safe, recovery-focused housing, NUWAY enables clients to focus on the management of their recovery and build a foundation for a long-term recovery,” Vennes explained.

(NUWAY partners with independently owned and run recovery residences throughout the Twin Cities to help its clients access housing while in outpatient treatment.)

At present, NUWAY serves over 600 people per day at three intensive outpatient counseling centers and two residential centers in the Twin Cities.

In 2017 NUWAY opened its third outpatient counseling center in the former United Family Practice site adjacent to Mancini’s Char House in St. Paul. In 2016 NUWAY opened an outpatient counseling center in the historic Snyder (Pillsbury) mansion at 2118 Blaisdell Ave., Minneapolis. The house was built in 1913 for John Pillsbury Snyder, and his wife Nelle, who had survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.
